New work submitted to the 2022 ING Discerning Eye Exhibition.

'Hotter' Hot Earth

‘Hotter, hot earth’ 2022 - Oil on panel

In middle of July during the hottest weather we have had in the UK, in memory, I entered a small series of works I had been doing since March, into the annual open art exhibition held by the non profit group Discerning Eye.

The top piece I call ‘Hotter, Hot Earth’, its 23 cm x 30.5 cm or 9'' x 12'' , oil on panel. Below , first in the gallery group is ‘Drought’, its small, just 12.7 cm x 17.8 cm or 5'' x 7'' , all these works are oil on panel. Next to it, is ‘Burning Forest’ its 23 cm x 30.5 cm or 9'' x 12'' Below these two is another small panel called ‘Hurt’ and it is 12.7 cm x 17.8 cm or 5'' x 7'' . Lastly there is the first I did from this ongoing series, ‘Hot Earth 1’ - 23 cm x 30.5 cm or 9'' x 12''

The themes of my current series of paintings is vary on both the physical world and emotional elements of fire and heat, in fact they are interchangeable, passion, longing, pain, thirst under the scorching, glowing temperatures of a hotter global (figuratively and physically), climate. The exhibition opens at the Mall Galleries in London and in a unique virtual exhibition on the 11th to the 20th of Nov 2022. This exhibition is for small works only with a max size of 20 inches, so my larger works in my ‘hot earth’ series could not be entered. All the works by the artists will be for sale. So its a good place to find a small unique piece by an emerging artist at an affordable price. I would say that is an excellent way to start a collection or add to your collection a work from a new artist.

ABOUT Discerning Eye: (from their website) The Discerning Eye is an educational charity, established in the UK in 1990, to encourage a wider understanding and appreciation of the visual arts and to stimulate debate about the place and purpose of art in our society, and the contribution each one of us can make to its development.

The exhibition comprises both publicly submitted works and works independently selected by six prominent figures from different areas of the art world: two artists, two collectors and two critics. Each section is hung separately to give each its own distinctive identity. The impression emerges of six small exhibitions within the whole.

It provides an unusual opportunity for works by lesser-known artists to be hung alongside contributions from internationally recognized names. The selectors are solely responsible for their own selection; selection is not by committee. The only restrictions are limitation of size (only small works are permitted) and to select at least 25% of their section from the open submission.

The exhibition is also supported by the sponsorship of ING. For further information and links please visit http://discerningeye.org
